"There’s a problem with analyzing Jerry Jemmott’s transcendent, funk - blues grooves with B.B. King: It’s tough to maintain focus while you’re shaking your butt."

BASS PLAYER™ MAGAZINE

I was led to the bass by the sophisticated funk of Paul Chambers playing "If I Were A Bell" recorded by Miles Davis. I would eventually seek out the funk and soul in every style of music but my next encounter was the raw power and artistry of Charles Mingus and the lean clean Eddie Jones of the Count Basie Band and his explosive side kick on drums, the great Sonny Payne.  Playing the bass in the rhythm section is  like being the axis of a planet as it travels  through time and space.

It's a blast to know that my work has inspired so many others.
